Outreach and Community
We believe outreach in any capacity is necessary to provide clarity, dissemination, and perspective about how research is conducted and how it is translated into functional outcomes that improve societal health. Reciprocally, these events and occasions provide insight and communication training for rising scientists who have ambitions for any career trajectory.
Researchers across Baltimore participate in the Baltimore Brain Series, connecting Johns Hopkins, UMB, UMBC, and the NIDA Intramural Research Program.
UMB has a vibrant neuroscience community that is working to provide resources to the community through local activities, science demonstrations, and workshops. Graduate student run clubs such as the Neuroscience Outreach and Volunteer Association (NOVA). Students, trainees, and professors participate in science fairs and expos, with yearly participation in the following events:
The Dana Foundation and Brain Awareness Week aims to advance neuroscience that benefits society and reflects the aspirations of all people. They and partners explore the connections between neuroscience and society’s challenges and opportunities, working to maximize the potential of the field to do good.
